Trip/Bowl Game Notes

Another BCS bowl appearance by the Utes, this time at the 2009 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, LA.  This time the Utes' opponent is the SEC power Alabama Crimson Tide.  The Tide roll in with a #5 national ranking and spent 5 weeks at #1 in the nation this season.  This trip had the following making the journey to the Big Easy: Troy & Andrea Chilton, Angel Christensen, Mike & Bonnie Clark, Landon & Erin Clark, Emily Allen, and Bryan Tippetts.  Because of the difficulty in getting to New Orleans cheap there were many creative ways our group went about traveling for the bowl game.  Some managed to fly direct to New Orleans, while others drove to Las Vegas and caught a flight, and another flew to Gulfport, MS and then drove the 1.5 hrs to New Orleans.  All in all, we had a great time seeing the sights and smells of New Orleans.  Among the sites visited: Cafe Dumond, Mulate's Original Cajun Restaurant, Mother's Restaurant, French Quarter/Bourbon Street, WWII Museum, and LSU campus in Baton Rouge.

As for the game, what else can be said?  The Utes kicked some major ass!  A thorough beating of one of college football's most storied programs right in their own backyard!  The Utes defense stiffled a vaunted Alabama rushing attack holding them to just 31 yards rushing and 8 sacks.  QB-Brian Johnson was named Sugar Bowl MVP with his 336 yards passing and 3 TD's.  Click here for the full game recap.
