Tailgate/Game Notes
2006 began with the annual Red/White Scrimmage game on Saturday, April
22nd at Rice-Eccles Stadium. We arrived around 10am to reserved
spots next to the Utefans.net folks and their 'pirate ship' (btw thanks
Webmonkey!). We debuted the newest additions to our tailgate by
setting up a newly purchased "Utah Utes" canopy and ping pong table.
Ping pong turned out to be quite the hit as even current Ute QB-Brett
Ratliff and family joined us early on! He was also kind enough to
toss passes to two of our tailgaters (Tip & Troy) who both cradled the
ball as if they were back in high school and never missed a beat.
Tip even donned the Ute helmet to make it look that much more realistic!
On the menu for the spring game were brats, dogs, kicked up chicken, and
grilled fries. Also, on hand were two early entries for the upcoming
Salsa Contest (09/09/06 - vs NAU). We were surrounded by free food
(Famous Dave's BBQ) so there was no shortage of it around. Joe
showed up with his Husky t-shirt only to trash his team as apparently
their spring practices haven't been going too well. Overall, the
spring game tailgate was a huge success as we numbered somewhere in the
high 20's.
The game was just over an
hour long with the "white" team coming out on top by scoring a touchdown
on the last play from backup QB-Kevin Dunn to WR-Sean Smith. The
"red" team had to overcome a 16 point deficit to start the scrimmage.
QB-Ratliff made the throws and the reads and looked like the starter
heading into this fall. Oklahoma transfer QB- Tommy Grady however
certainly made a case for himself by completing a couple of touchdown
passes including one where he scrambled to this right and then threw on
the run to WR-Richards in the corner of the end zone!
