Tailgate/Game Notes

2008 began with the annual Red/White Spring scrimmage at Rice-Eccles Stadium.  Although the day was a comfortable 75 degrees the heavy winds made for some adjustments with our tailgate (no canopy) and the scrimmage (very few passes).  As was posted, the tailgate was a small setup with few tailgaters - thanks to those who did show up.  We decided to go with hot dogs/brats on the grill.  A nice surprise was the fact that a group of Michigan fans were in attendance to tailgate as well as the scrimmage.

As for the scrimmage, the early going was tough for returning QB-Brian Johnson, who threw an interception on his second drive.  Backup QB-Chad Manis was a nice surprise and possibly cemented his status as the backup to Johnson.  He rushed for 2 TD's along with throwing for another to WR-Freddie Brown.  Freshman QB-DeVonte Christopher rushed for a game high 84 yards while RB-Eddie Wide had 65 yards.  The highlight of the scrimmage was honorary head coach Eric Weddle (white team) came in to attempt a PAT which was blocked.  DB-Sean Smith returned the blocked PAT with Weddle giving chase nearly the entire length of the field while Smith scored on the conversion.

A few nice additions will be making their debut this upcoming tailgate season, a new grill/griddle (Camp Chef), Baggo 'U' style, and thanks to Nick Clark 'Rock Band'!
