Tailgate/Game Notes

Our tailgate season began with the ever popular Caputo's Meatball subs and courtesy of our next door tailgate friends the 'Juan Diego guys' their version of 'bacon explosion'.  With so much new construction taking place up near our tailgate spot, we are finding ourselves a bit crowded and parking is even more limited.  This has prompted us to begin the new tradition of the camp out tailgate!  This will help us secure our tailgate spot week after week.  Starting with the next home game (Louisville, Sept 26) we will be arriving the evening before to save our tailgate spot.  So feel free to bring up a tent/RV and join us sometime!

With the Utes riding the longest current winning streak in the nation (14 games).  The #18 ranked Utes faced a series of new questions heading into this season.  First and foremost replacing Sugar Bowl MVP QB-Brian Johnson and replacing the offensive & defensive coordinator positions.  The Utes promoted LB coach Kalani Sitake to defensive coordinator as well as RB coach Dave Schramm to offensive coordinator.  The QB position was a battle all spring and fall camp as QB-Corbin Louks, JC transfer Terrance Cain, and true freshman Jordan Wynn battled it out.  As the season drew near, it was evident that Cain and Wynn had the upper hand.  This prompted Louks to transfer to Nevada.

The 2009 season opener saw a familiar face on the Aggies sideline as new head coach Gary Anderson began his transition from Utah defensive coordinator to head coach of Utah St.  The Aggies jumped on the Utes early with a 3-0 lead only to see Utah answer back with a 65 yard scoring strike from JC transfer QB-Terrance Cain to WR-David Reed.  The Aggies did keep things close with a 96 yard TD run by RB-Robert Turbin.  However, with a fewadjustments by the Utah defense (Utah St was held scoreless in the 2nd half) and a solid run game behind RB-Matt Asiata (156 yards, 2TD) the Utes held on for a 35-17 win.  The Utes now extended their nation leading win streak to 15 games!  Click here for the full game recap.
