Tailgate/Game Notes

Our first home game tailgate of the 2007 season was by all means a success.  Early estimates put the number of tailgaters at or near 30 attendees.  Among the early arrivals were Joe and (new son) Max Kulgren, Blake Thomas, Rob, Britton, and Charlie Christensen.  All arrived by 11am, thanks for making the effort!  A couple of new kid friendly toys were unveiled (see photos below) to hopefully entertain your kids for the duration of our tailgates.  We hope to have these to all future tailgates. On tap for the menu were grilled steak and chicken tacos.  As well as our much anticipated 'Salsa Contest' was scheduled.  Among those that entered: defending champion Josh Terry, Erin Clark, Matt Short,  Mike Clark, Allen Tippetts, and Tip.  Matt Short won the contest in a landslide with 32 total votes.  The next closest was Erin C. (19).  When told of his victory Matt had this to say, "I'm so glad my hard work paid off.  I planted a garden just for this contest and I picked the ingredients for my championship salsa just morning.  I'm glad all those mornings getting up early to hand water my 'little soldiers' paid off."

As for the game, well the final was 20-12 Air Force after the Utes had a chance to tie the game but could not punch it in from inside the 1 yard line on consecutive tries.  The Ute offense continued to struggle running the ball and new starter QB-Tommy Grady was indecisive in the passing game.  Air Force used a combination of run and pass but mostly running to earn the win.  The Utes begin the 2007 season a disappointing 0-2 with nationally ranked #11 UCLA Bruins in town.
