Louisville Cardinals - 35

Utah Utes - 44

Trip/Game Notes

The Utes made the trip east to Louisville, Kentucky and so did we!  Among those making the long trek: Mike & Bonnie Clark, Landon/Erin/Annie/Elliott Clark, and Bryan Tippetts.  We did sight-seeing Thursday & Friday fitting in legendary Churchill Downs (home of the Kentucky Derby), breakfast at award-winning Lynn's Paradise Cafe, and a tour of the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory (where Annie ran the bases and Landon/Erin/Tip took some cuts in the cages!).  The Clark family were staying a few extra days to take in some more sights such as the "Bourbon Tour", which is a tour of some of the local bourbon/whiskey distilleries.

Game day started out with a light steady rain but cleared up by noon.  This made for a hot muggy day and evening.  As for the game, we sat in the Utah section among some 500 (maybe more) other or so Ute fans.  The Utes jumped out first on the Cardinals 21-0 before taking a 27-7 lead into halftime.  The Cardinals came out with Heisman candidate QB-Brian Brohm leading Louisville back within 6 pts at 41-35 but a game saving 46 yard field goal by Ute kicker Louie Sakoda sealed the win.  QB-Brian Johnson looked a lot better this week throwing the ball as he threw for 312 yards and 1 TD but rushing for another.  RB-Darrell Mack set a new single game career high with 163 yards and 3 TD's.  Freshman QB-Corbin Louks also scored on a 16 yard run up the middle.  On a lesser note, Ute LB-Kyle Brady was lost for the season with a torn achille's tendon.

Our next tailgate (San Diego St) this coming week features the popular Caputo's Meatball/Sausage subs!  Get there early with a 1pm kickoff we'll be wrapping up around noon.
