Tailgate/Game Notes

The first tailgate of the year kicked off at 'Pad West' with an away game for the Utes as they were visiting the Oregon State Beavers.  On tap for the menu were Cuban Style burgers.  These are beef patties topped with smoked ham, Swiss cheese, garlic mayo, Dijon mustard, and pickles.  To finish them off they are wrapped up in foil and then 'pressed' on the grill.  We had a few newcomers to this tailgate: Jennifer Danker, Tieg Hamer, and Becky Fultz.  They were joined by regulars, Cody Malmrose, Blake Thomas, Alicia Peterson, Sam Smith, Brock Blackner, and Chris Killian.  Among other items brought was some special Jell-O that Jennifer brought along that had a "Utes" theme and were quite the hit even though the game itself was not.

As for the game well, it started out quite well as the Utes were the first to score on a 36 yard pass from QB-Brian Johnson to WR-Brent Casteel.  Things looked on the up and up however the loss of RB-Matt Asiata (broken leg) and Johnson (separated shoulder) in the first half proved costly.  The Beavers rolled up 241 yards rushing to hand the Utes a 20-7 loss as the Utes were unable to muster any offense in the 2nd half.  Asiata was lost for the season while Johnson appears to be out 3-5 weeks.  Backup QB-Tommy Grady now will take the reigns and hopefully prove his worth as a former Oklahoma Sooners recruit.
