Tailgate/Game Notes The first tailgate of the 2008 season was upon us and that also means salsa contest! We were setup this morning by 9am for the 6pm kickoff and had a really good turnout with numbers hovering around 30-40. On the menu were chicken/steak fajitas to go along with our salsa contest. The winner (as voted on by fellow tailgaters) was Elysha Black with a black bean/avocado salsa. This spoiled the hopes of defending champion Matt Short as he came in 2nd place. Other entrants included: Bonnie Clark, Erin Clark, Emily Allen, and Bryan Tippetts. We debuted our version of 'Cornhole' with custom paint jobs (don't worry the 'Utah' board is still under construction). Next tailgate (Sept 27 vs Weber St - 6pm) is the BBQ pulled pork tailgate that is very popular. Please make every effort to arrive early if you want to eat as we are cleaning up 1 hr prior to kickoff. The 2008 Salsa Champ - Elysha Black As for the game, it started out with the Rebels taking the opening drive down the field and going up 7-0 to stun the 3rd largest crowd in Rice-Eccles Stadium history. However, the Utes settled in but still went into halftime tied up 14-14. The 2nd half opened with Ute WR-David Reed returning the kickoff 49 yards only to be tackled by the Rebel kicker. This led to a 3rd quarter barrage as the Utes scored 3 TD's in the quarter to put away the game. QB-Brian Johnson threw for 2 TD's and scored another on the ground (56 yds). |
